"Tea Route" is one of the successful tourism projects of Ozurgeti Municipality, which started in 2019 with the active involvement of interested entrepreneurs. The first tea seedling was planted in Georgia 170 years ago in Ozurgeti. Unlike other agro crops, it is possible to pick and process tea 6-7 months a year. Georgian tea is well known to local and foreign consumers - these characteristics became the basis for launching the "Tea Road" tourism project. Currently, there are 4 locations of "Tea Road", where in 2019 more than 2000 visitors visited. The selected participants offer the tourist arriving at the enterprise: tea picking, participation in the processing process, tea tasting. From next year, it is planned to involve interested companies from Ozurgeti and other municipalities in the "Tea Road" tourist route.
Ozurgeti Municipality City Hall actively cooperates with the representatives of tourist locations: annual info and press tours are organized, Georgian Tea Festival is established in Ozurgeti, local guide training program is held, participates in international exhibitions to popularize tourism potential. The partner of the municipality is the National Tourism Administration of Georgia, the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the United Nations Development Program.
